Don't Steal My Birthday!

Toons.TV description:

It's Stella's birthday! An old friend drops in to wish her well, i.e. take over the whole party.

Gale crashes Stella’s birthday party with her pigs so that they can party her way. Stella is actually touched by the gift her old friend gives her, but when Luca crowns Stella the dancing queen with Gale’ crown, the party comes to an abrupt end!

First thing foremost, I'd like to draw attention to this episode's titlecard:

This bitch really just showed up to her ex's birthday party wrapped up like a present. I think this is what the cool kids call a "power move".

Sadly, this doesn't happen in the actual episode, she just shows up in some kinda throne-mobile.

I like the beginning scene which contrasts Stella celebrating with all her friends on the beach, with Gale who's in her castle all alone. Although I find it funny just how Male-Living-Space Gale's bedroom is in this episode. I get that the emptiness is to add further contrast, but Gale would NOT allow herself to sleep in a room like that. At least give her a proper bed! Even the grandpa from Stardew Valley is better off than her!

This episode is also the first instance of Gale making up with Stella/the flock, before quickly undoing all her goodwill by the end. However, that's not a bad thing in this episode, because as I said, it's the first attempt after 11 whole episodes of being antagonistic, of course things are going to get a bit bumpy! Besides, she didn't come in planning to make amends, she just wanted to hog the spotlight for a bit, having a good time with Stella was simply a happy accident.

And now for a minor detail to pad out this commentary:

When Gale attempts to out-perform Stella by diving off her throne-mobile, the back of said throne-mobile is open so we can see all the gears and mechanisms inside responsible for her dramatic chair-spin reveal at the beginning. In fact, we even get to see the mechanism in action, as Gale does another chair-spin before her dive.

Considering that these few seconds are the only time we get to see the throne-mobile from the back, the modellers could've easily just covered it up and not do the insides, resulting in a cheaper model and less work for the animators, but they didn't; they took the time to model the internal mechanisms and left it exposed, thus giving the throne-mobile more of a "doohickey" vibe you'd expect from something pig-made. Good work, team!
