Blain Myhre - My First Concert at Red Rocks
LOCATION: Red Rocks Amphitheatre , Morrison
Hi, I can't believe I haven't run across your site sooner. In any event, I was looking through the gig list, and notice that you have no setlist for the 25 May 1984 show at Red Rocks in Denver, CO. I was at the show, and was lucky enough to get a setlist from a roadie. I've scanned it in and it is attached.
The setlist was followed. They came back for a third encore, unexpected and unplanned (as houselights were going up and security was clearly unprepared), and blistered through White Riot. Great show.
I'm also attaching two pictures from the show, that were scanned from weathered prints. Feel free to post or do with them what you wish. Thanks for running a great site.

I graduated from Coronado High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in May of1984. What a great year... I turned 18 in March, and I was about to attend my very first concert...! My best friend, Brenden, and I stood in line at Independent Records as tickets for The Clash were going on sale for the concert in May (or June... can't remember)at Red Rocks Amphitheater. The day before the concert, Brenden and I diligently purchased packages of Jarkarta Clove Cigarettes, and six 2 Liter Bottles of Coca-Cola.
We poured half of the soda out, and filled the rest with Rum, in a couple of bottles, and Wild Turkey 101 in the remaining bottles.The day finally came for the show... we hit the road for Morrison, Colorado, early, and made it to the venue at about 8:00 AM, a 2 hour drive. There was already a line, as General Admission seats had access to seating in the very first 30 to 50 rows.
The gates opened at 10:00 am, and the line advanced slowly as individuals were searched for weapons, drugs, and liquor by the park staff. I was somewhat nervous as the staff opened mine and Brenden's bags to be searched. The staff carefullyfelt aroundthe 2 Liter bottles of "Coke", felt around through the rest of the bags... and then let us in the park, with the drinks... finally!
Brenden and I found seating next to the sound pit... which were excellent seats... about the 20th row. Our view of the stage was incredible, as the stone rows for seating were "stepped" as movie theatre seating is arranged. You stand, or sit, above the persons in front of you.
It was a beautiful Spring day! Not a cloud in the sky...! I whipped out my Hackey Sack from my pocket, and Brenden and I found some other fellas to play with... we played ALL DAY, drinking our 2 Liter bottles of mixed drinks throughout that morning and into the evening. As the roadies set up the stage and worked through the sound check, you couldn't help but notice the large banner hanging from one of the huge speakers..."Show Us Your Tits!"
It was show time soon after sundown... Barry Fey made the long awaited announcement, "Ladies and Gentleman... give a warm Red Rocks Welcome for... THE CLASH!" An unmistakable bass line boomed through the night air as they opened the show with "London Calling"! Strummer sported a blonde mow-hawk and held the Microphone and Mic stand in his usual fashion, resting on his shoulder. What a GREAT show... "I Fought The Law", "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" and many other fantastic Clash tunes filled the air. We had heard that Mick Jones would not be there, but we were not AT ALL disappointed! We made it home early in the morning, and Brenden and I attended MANY MANY more shows through that summer, and following summers. I am still proud to say that my first concert was The Clash at Red Rocks!
That was over 24 years ago. Things change...I haven't seen Brenden in over18 years. He is married now, and has children, as do I. A motorcycle accident that left me in the hospital for a month made me re-think my priorities, and I no longer drink or smoke. I have a mortgage to pay, gas prices to complain about, and a full time job selling insurance. I wonder how Brenden is doing... I wonder if he ever thinks about that show at Red Rocks on that beautiful summer day when we were young and nothing else mattered.

Setlist I snagged from Red Rocks (Morrison, Colorado) when the Clash II played there in May 1984. They did a third, unplanned encore of "White Riot." Great show.
There are several sights that provide setlists but most mirror www.blackmarketclash.co.uk. They are worth checking.

The Clash - Toronto Bus Interview April 1984
Joe Strummer interviewed by Lisa Robinson for WNYC?
This 2-part interview presents polar extremes of Joe Strummer. The first part most likely takes place in late 1983, after Mick Jones left the band but before the new Clash line-up started touring together. The majority of this segment involves Strummer heatedly discussing all the reasons Jones was fired. He then goes on to talk animatedly about the new incarnation of the band and how everyone in America is on drugs.
In the second part of the interview, recorded in the beginning of 1984, Strummer sounds melancholy and exhausted. However, with the departure of Mick Jones from The Clash being old news by this point, Lisa Robinson is able to steer the questioning towards what Strummer makes of performing, success, and his music.
