Out of Control Tour '84
updated 13 Feb 2012 - added photos
Audio 1 - Correct date & tape -
Sound 2.5 - 1hr 18mins - Unknown gen - 23 tracks
Poorish but listenable - first half of the tape much better than the letter half. Nice upgrade though.
Dictator
Many copies from this gig are in fact Belfast from the day before. This is the best of the Irish leg, an average recording, flat but with little distortion.
Besides the track list you can tell during Rock the Casbah where Joe sings "even here in Dublin" about a minute or so in at both the Dublin gigs (13th & 14th). At Belfast (12th) he says nothing.

The Clash, Metallica, The Smiths, Def Leppard, Judas Priest Depeche Mode, Ozzy Osbourne, R.E.M., Bjork, The Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Foo Fighters and U2 - need I say more?
Arguably the biggest loss of the lot, the SFX, like a few others on this list, was demolished and the site of the north inner city venue is now home to apartments.
Concerts were brought to a halt in 2001, when they were moved to the Ambassador Theatre which then closed in 2008
Dave G Kelly - 2014
Ah yes, I suppose I should have included location: Sherrard St, Dublin 1. No longer there as it's now an apartment block. SFX stood for St Francis Xavier Hall.
Mary A. - @maireaburke - 9 Feb 2018
Concerts in the now demolished SFX Dublin. Brought to these by my then boyfriend. I was not impressed but we overcame such differences to remain together and marry. #punk #Dublin #TheClash #echoandthebunnymen

Ah Jaysus, don't talk to me about this concert,! I had the ticket bought and then they rescheduled the date for March which was the day of the mocks for the Inter so had to bring back the ticket for a refund! I never got to see my favorite band, did bump in to Mick Jones On Grafton Street once thought! .............. Dave G Kelly The main reason I came here was because just half an hour ago I came across something you posted on Dublin Opinion, Casablanca Moons Mountain Dew Morning Demo Tape. I would love to get my hands on a copy of it. Garret and myself used to work for Dave Clifford on the O O'Connell street Bridge selling badges, we used to sell t-shirts at all the concerts as well, U2 At the Phoenix Park, Dylan at slane, when the riots broke out, Dave, Garret and my self actually his under the car. Twisted Sister at dalymount park selling the programes, Garret and my self got some slaging of the crowd for our new romantic look. Now I know i have painted a very musical picture but ya know it wasn't all ways that glamorous, Dave had us up at Croke park selling for the Dublin Matches as well!! I had a copy of mountain Dew Morning but it got destroyed in a house fire in my parents house many years. I have fond memories of Garret been the first person i ever knew in a band playing on teley, the song was the last one on the demo ( i think) A theme for Kings and the show was Jobsus (Jaysus we could do with it again) I would be only delighted if you could make us a copy of the demo, you can email me robdelott@ymail.com mant thanks Dave.
You never know with posters these days. Quite a number of fakes are appearing. This ebay seller says it is a reprodcution?
We think its a fake?
I was at The Clash gig on 13th March 1984 SFX Dublin.
Memorable. Everything seemed to go wrong but it was still a triumph. Joe faced down a gang of right wing skinheads who harassed and spat at him all throughout the gig. He showed no fear and displayed a rare dignity for a man drenched in mucus trying to entertain his people. At one point he singled out a particularly nasty thug by sayng "You, the one who can't spell Nietzsche! "
ArdeeCarrick Records - @ArdeeCarrickLPs - 6 Mar 2019
Before cell phones ruined concerts/shows, cameras and recorders were banned. This small venue the old #SaintFrancisXavierHall #Dublin #TheClash show February 1984 one of the most memorable shows we ever were lucky enough to go to. We miss the old concert tickets! @OldDublinTown
Dave G Kelly - The Clash @ The SFX 1984
Their two gigs were originally scheduled to take place on the 5 and 6 February 1984 but were rescheduled to the 13 and 14 March of that year. Although neither Mick Jones nor Topper Headon was in the line-up by that stage, they were still the best live band on the planet. I think I remember guitarist Vince (Greg) White falling into the crowd.

Joe Strummer interviewed by Lisa Robinson for WNYC?
This 2-part interview presents polar extremes of Joe Strummer. The first part most likely takes place in late 1983, after Mick Jones left the band but before the new Clash line-up started touring together. The majority of this segment involves Strummer heatedly discussing all the reasons Jones was fired. He then goes on to talk animatedly about the new incarnation of the band and how everyone in America is on drugs.
In the second part of the interview, recorded in the beginning of 1984, Strummer sounds melancholy and exhausted. However, with the departure of Mick Jones from The Clash being old news by this point, Lisa Robinson is able to steer the questioning towards what Strummer makes of performing, success, and his music.
