Are You Ready For War?
Another nice and a much improved upgrade. A probable low/first generation accompanied with bootleggers photocopied artwork it has a reasonably good sound. (Back Stage passes can also be found on the reverse of the FHTE cover.)
The tape has some minor problems and is a touch thin for the first few songs. These differences were far more pronounced on the actual boot tape.
Overall the vocals, lead guitar,drums are clear but bass is thin and generally the range is thin, but still an enjoyable listen with a pretty nice width of sound with reasonably good clarity, only the high decibels produce some slight over amplification.
The sound is up front and near with not too much echo. The different drums can just be made out, the vocals come across really strong as does the guitars. Even the bass is clear further in, particularly when the decibels are low. Link to If Music Could Talk

Notable for the only post 83/Mick Jimmy Jazz which is by far the most jamming version the Clash played. The band are as usual fired up and Joe attempts a few words of Italian! There are edits on Guns of Brixton, The Dictator (only the last minute survives) and the opening intro on Police and Thieves with a tape turnover. Janie Jones is replayed after an interruption. The set list is largely the norm for this tour and there are excellent versions of Ammunition and Three Card Trick.
London Calling has some flaws for the first few seconds and the first two tracks are the thinnest sounding. By the introductions and Are you Ready for War the sound has improved. Ammunition is preceded by Joes growing concern at the political swings to the extreme 'fascist' right (Thatcher - Reagan) and for young people to use their political votes (for the parties of the left). A theme he would reiterioate throughout this tour.
The band run through a usual set of numbers. Joe steps it up for Im so bored for the USA. A remarkable Jimmy Jazz follows, very jammy, hard and short. The show really comes together musically as the band concentrate on enjoying playing as with most 84 shows. Janie Jones is much speeded up as Joe picks up the pace, but it doesnt quite work out first time and Joe stops it and restarts from the beginning, quickly racing into English Civil War. I Fought the Law ends the set.
Armagideon Time opens up the encores followed by a very energetic, if slightly loud and overamplified Tommy Gun. The atmosphere is really charged as the band launch into Garageland, Joe ad libs some extra angry lyrics towards the end, and carries on into a rousing Brand New cadilac and caree Opportunities combo. The band is urged anto a very tame and quiet Londons Burning.
Nick Sheppard takes lead vocals as per usual on Micks 'Should I Stay or Should I Go" and tries to shout the lyrics in a effort to deliver a fast upbeat aggressive version. the band bows out with a similar asault on White Riot.

On February 28, 1984 (leap year, for the record) Joe Strummer with what remains of the Clash makes a stop in Italy. It is not the first time in our country for the band, which has already held some concerts in 1980 and 1981 for Italian fans.
That Milanese date sees the presence of a guest group to open the evening: Not Moving, an emerging band that had already attracted the attention of many professionals and enthusiasts. Their sound is peculiar, it hangs up to the mood of bands like Cramps and Gun Club, with many references to punk, but also to the sound of Australian rock and to more roots-blues atmospheres. PDF

This 2-part interview presents polar extremes of Joe Strummer. The first part most likely takes place in late 1983, after Mick Jones left the band but before the new Clash line-up started touring together. The majority of this segment involves Strummer heatedly discussing all the reasons Jones was fired. He then goes on to talk animatedly about the new incarnation of the band and how everyone in America is on drugs.
In the second part of the interview, recorded in the beginning of 1984, Strummer sounds melancholy and exhausted. However, with the departure of Mick Jones from The Clash being old news by this point, Lisa Robinson is able to steer the questioning towards what Strummer makes of performing, success, and his music.
