An original flyer for the 22.05.1981 Sanremo show for the Impossible Mission Italian Tour, squeezed between Milan and Florence gigs. The band were apparently booked on a prime time tv appearance on the successful "Discoring" to play Magnificent 7 on the Sunday.

Four thousand unleashed to hear the "Clash"

LaStampa 23/05/1981 - number 121 page 18

Four thousand unleashed to hear the "Clash" Last night in Sanremo the English rock complex Four thousand unleashed to hear the "Clash" SANREMO -

A big party last night for young and very young lovers of the most shouted and violent rock. Returning from Vigorelli in Milan, the Clash arrived in Sanremo, one of the best known British groups of the moment. Born, as a musical registry, in 1976, Clash made their bones during the new wave of rock, then moved on to what was then called punk (those guys who played at full volume, with a marked face and resignation to the "Disgusting" of their second "cursed" existence), from which they are detaching themselves, just now, to happily return to rock.

The chronicles say that their executions are still affected by punk pessimism (with complaints of today's reality), but accompanied by musical tones even close to more traditional jazz. Clash is a "collision" and an authentic collision occurred last night when they presented themselves on the stage set up on the edge of the sports field by: organizer Angelo Esposito.

Six thousand lire (single price), it was necessary to shell out to hear Mick Jones. Paul Simonon, Topper Headon and Joe Strummer. Almost four thousand have done so. And it was a great party.

The four Englishmen, after a long test, live, in the English and United States squares, are now attempting the Italian tour. Tomorrow evening they will close at the Florence stadium. Beyond the takings, the aim of the tour was also to promote the sale of their latest lp "Standista", which apparently is rising in the world rankings.

There' they accuse of being too commercialized (it seems they have declared themselves willing to compose the soundtrack of the next film by Martin Scorsese, and their making movie is already in circulation in Milan), but some specialized magazines, including Melody maker, say that the Clash are the "strongest" rock band of the moment. And that's enough for them.

The four English boys focus on the grip that Joe's sharp voice always makes on the attentive public. The formula also succeeded yesterday in Sanremo.
