Trash City

The last track is from the opening track from the previous night. Joe names the suport act One Style MDV from Hackney.

This is a not bad recording, average or just above and comes from the tapers copy. Much clearer and much more enjoyable. Tracks 9,10,11 are severely overamplified, in most other parts there is some slight overamplification. Police and Thieves is about as good as it gets on the sound.

An older much more circulated tape suffered somewhat

Side one is much like side 2, the first four tracks on on both are much duller than the rest and have a lot of noise. After that it picks up and is quite a decent sound, though noise still persists slightly as a result of bad copying.

The last four tracks on side one though suffer from overamplification and are distorted. A total of 12 substandard tracks. Island hopping being as good as the tape gets.

Still quite good in the better moments and it obvoiusly comes from a decent source. The vocals, guitars and drums all make up a nice mix, quite clear.

Prior to Passport too Detroit Joes sings a couple of lines 5 Star Rock n Roll. A track he has never played since the days of the 101ers.

What a great site - I have spent hrs re-visiting my personal Clash history.  The first date I saw them was at the Friars, in 1980.
 
I saw them Friday 13th of October 1989 - Joe did a signing at Virgin Records, the one at the Marble Arch end of Oxford St. 

There weren't many people there - maybe about 80 - and Joe was on good form following the previous nights gig.  I asked him if he was going to change the set-list and he replied: 'I thought you liked the last one' and laughed.  He went on to tell me that he was going to 'Dust off some Spanish folks songs' for the gig tonight.  He signed my copy of 'London Calling' and 'Earthquake Weather' and I left very happy ... kicking myself on the bus on the way home that I had been too nervous to take my camera along and ask for a photo.
